So, what is Brownies all about?Brownie Guides are usually aged between 7 and 10, although Brownies can stay in the Pack until they are 11. Any girl over the age of seven can become a Brownie Guide as long as she is able to understand, and wants to make, the Brownie Guide Promise. I started when I was 7.
Brownies belong to a Pack and work in small groups called Sixes. Sixes are usually named after imp-like creatures; such as Sprites, Gnomes, Kelpies, or Leprechauns. When a new Brownie starts she will join one of the Sixes and everyone in her Six will make her feel welcome and teach her all the games we play and our songs. It also makes her feel that she belongs to something special.

Once you make your Promise you can start your Brownie Adventure. It is broken into 3 parts: You, the Community and the World. We do challenges and activities based around these subjects. It's great. Last term we acted out stories from around the world, made chocolate nest cakes for Easter. We also work through special Brownie Adventure books to help us think up our own challenges. But it's not a bit like school. They are jam-packed with ideas, puzzles and fill-in pages. Sometimes we do a whole load of challenges based around one subject, and then we get these funky badges to sew onto our sashes. |
